[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Telnet to a PC?

ce1zzes@prism.gatech.EDU (Eric Sheppard) (12/06/90)

I put Telnet beta v12 in server mode and tried to telnet to it from another
machine. It responded:

Packet received for invalid port -- reset sent

Can one log onto a PC over telnet? How can this be accomplished?

My experience with PC/Mac related TCP/IP (SLIP) software (KA9Q) is
that you need a psuedo tty (login proces) as well as a telnet
port in order to gain access to the PC/Mac. Most of the time,
I FTP to the PC/Mac and move about from directory-to-directory,
as well as list directories and upload/download files within the
FTP shell. I don't know of any PC/Mac applications which would
launch on the PC/Mac and output over telnet. X-Windows clients
might be the closest you'll get. Hope this helps.
