I see there's a Second Edition of Comer's Internetworking book out. Anybody know if it's worth buying if the First Edition is already owned? How about an upgrade kit from Prentice-Hall? :) -- howie uunet!bcstec!voodoo!howie

Absolutely. The data is current as of the first part of 1990. He covers the changes in the internet/nsfnet in a manner that those of us who don't make the net our profession can quickly assimilate. Plus he covers all the generally adopted improvements to IP up through the middle of this year. There is also an information coupon from Interop Inc. who sponsors Comer's seminars. I've heard very good things about his 4 day implementor's course. Find someone with a casual interest in TCP/IP and sell him Version 1 for about $25 or so. Then buy the new one. The Second edition of Comer's book is much expanded compared to the first. Also, a second *volume* dealing with implementation and programming issues is due out soon.
