[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] LPD daemon for PC

I'm trying to get the binaries from the recent version of LPD for
the PC ( PC based print server ) to work. From my sun to the PC,
the files get downloaded and the proper spool files created. However
the LPD program shows the files as having 0 length, and no action
shows up on the printer.
Does any one have this going? This is beta release 1.4 by
D. Johnson at Old Miss.

I would also be interested in any comments. We've been trying to get the
program to work and have been having trouble, too. In our case, the files
get downloaded, the spool and control files get created, and then the
program apparently *deletes* the control files before actually doing any
printing.

I've talked to Mr. Johnson at Ole' Miss, and he's been helping out, but
it's kind of hard for him to debug his code from 1000 miles away (esp. when
on a PC). I'm not a C programmer, but I may be learning soon :).

In case anyone out there has got this to work, I've tried this on several
machines (286-386, several brands) with the same behavior. All are on a
Western Digital StarLan (but since the files transfer OK, I didn't think it
would be a networking problem). Also, NCSA telnet and KA9Q NOS all work
fine with the packet drivers from Clarkson.

I used the default configurations (they seemed OK), put the program and
config files in /spool, and created /spool/lpd for the files to be printed
and for the control files. Is there something else I'm missing?

This will be a *great* addition to the available PD networking software for
PCs once the bugs are out.

Thanks in advance,
