[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Unix Applications

rlstewart@eng.xyplex.com (Bob Stewart) (01/03/91)

Excuse me for misusing the mailing list, but of the resources I have, I figure
this group contains the smartest, most knowledgable, helpful, and public
spirited people I can get to. :-)

I need a lead on UNIX-based applications for basic text editing and electronic
mail. Xyplex is migrating slowly from VMS to Unix, and that means we're about
to inflict all its arcanity on people who should be better protected. GNU
Emacs and such are (barely) acceptible for us computer freaks, but not for the
clerks, accountants, secretaries, and such that make up the rest of a company
and have other concerns. We want everyone to have access to electronic mail
and simple text editing, but have no idea what applications are available or
suitable. Somewhere out there must be a text editor and a mail interface that
are easy to learn and easy to use without a manual and an endless ability to
remember obscure commands and beat a computer into submission.

If you know of such applications, either free or commercial, please email me
directly. Don't leave it to someone else, because I'm afraid what I'm looking
for is not well known, and you who know about it are rare.

Thanks,

	Bob
