Survey on International T1 International Connections ---------------------------------------------------- Just at the same momement I was trying to send off a poll on international T1 (and similar) Internet connections (and was wondering if this is the right newsgroup to send the poll to), I saw Allan's article surveying 56K bps international connections! So, I'd appreciate your dropping me a line about International T1 Internet connections you happened to know of and/or in charge of. There is a few of them as far as I know. It'd be nice if you also include the hardware (router/gateway types) and link level protocols (cisco proprietary? ppp? etc.) used. I'll summarize to comp.protocols.tcp-ip. Btw, it was "rumored" that Hong Kong Telecom has verbally agreed to donate (whatever it means) a free T1 Hongkong-Japan link (which at today's satellite channel price-tag would cost some HK$400,000 or US$50,000 per month, and that's only half circult) to Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, to link up Hong Kong's academia to the Internet. Don't know if it's gonna materialize, but looks like the "T1 Trend" is taking momemtum -- and I'm surprised that HK Telecom (previously the British Cable & Wireless) can do something bravo like that... :-) cheers, /aaron. cc: soc.culture.hongkong; & for schk'ers: the data transfer rate of a T1 circuit is 1.544 megabits per second; the current HK-USA bitnet link is 2400 bits per second (!).
