[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Getting/setting the time across slow links.

702WFG@SCRVMSYS.BITNET (bill gunshannon) (01/14/91)

Is there a protocol that will allow the setting of system time across
a link that may have long (but hopefully consistant) delays??
I am looking for something that will determine average rtt and then
adjust the time it receives accordingly.

Any suggestions??

There's an article in December 1990 Unix Review on Network Time Protocol
(NTP) referencing RFC 1129; RFC by David L. Mills, article by Rob Kolstad.
Perhaps one or the other can provide what you need.
