Has anyone surveyed recently to see how the bandwidth of NSFnet or some other large chunk of Internet is being used, as in per-application-protocol packet or byte counts? For example, how much traffic is devoted to FTP, SMTP, NNTP? Do we still suffer from floods of DNS traffic due to resolver or application bugs? How many single-character telnet/rlogin packets traverse the backbone? Stuart Levy, Geometry Group, University of Minnesota slevy@geom.umn.edu
