[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Protocol field in PPP packets

aggarwal@NISC.JVNC.NET (Vikas Aggarwal) (01/20/91)

Maybe this has been discussed before or maybe its too obvious, but if
I construe things correctly, every PPP packet has a "protocol" field
which identifies the packet (IP, CSLIP, DECnet, etc.).

Unless a number of protocol connections are established concurrently over
one link, isn't that an antithesis of what CSLIP is all about (redundant
information after the initial setup) ?? Or maybe I *am* reading the RFC
with too many protocols in my fuzzy fuzz !!
