[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] RCP over Wide Area or Slow Serial

sanand@sp90.uucp (01/30/91)

I am looking for references/information/opinions on using RPC over
"long delay" or slow serial (9.6) lines or X.25. Are there any performance
studies out there? Any write-ups of case studies? (RPC would be used
between application entities, not for NFS purposes). What are the issues
involved in using RPC over IP@9.6 or even 2400 or X.25? Does the UDP layer
break down or become unusable over IP/X.25?

As an aside, can anyone point me to info on the latest status of RPC
and security? Since RPC does not hold a "session" between two entities (is that
right?), how do people handle *session* security (as opposed to security for
a specific instance of an RPC call)?

Thanks in advance,
Sanand.
