[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] SL/IP question

mike@ap542.uucp (Mike Hoffmann) (02/01/91)

Hi!

We are trying to establish a SL/IP connection between our system
(a Siemens MX-500 with Sinix 5.22) and a DEC MIPS machine running Ultrix
4.1.

hosta ist our machine
hostb is the DEC MIPS

On our own machine, a SLIP conn is initialized by doing:
  slattach <tty> <baudrate>
  ifconfig sl0 <hosta> <hostb> mtu 256 up

The MIPS machine uses a syntax like:
  slattach <hosta>
and this gets it's information from /etc/sliphosts, where the entry looks
like:
  <hosta> <hostb> <net> ... and so on ...
like it says in the manual.

Funnily though, only hosta can call hostb, but we have found no way
to call our machine from the DEC machine.
Let me add, that there is one other SL/IP connection running on the DEC
machine with no problems whatsoever, bi-directional.

Is only one possible? Is something wrong in the manual entries?
I could understand if it wouldn't work at all, but only in one direction
is ridiculous.

BTW, DEC can't help, their office here states that SL/IP is unsupported.

Thanks for any pointers!
Mike
