[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Loooking for lpd for DOS w/packet drivers

KOEHLER@awiwuw11.wu-wien.ac.at (Wolfi) (02/08/91)

Has anyone seen a public domain version of the UNIX lpd program as an
implementation on a DOS PC which works together with packet drivers and/or PC/T
CP from FTP Software ?
Please send me a note.
Many thanks in advance.

An implementation written by Dave Johnson (dave@cs.olemiss.edu) is
available, I believe, in beta release. It works with the Clarkson
packet driver collection but is *not* public domain. At present I don't
have a machine name from where it can be obtained via FTP but if you
contact me I'll dig around for it.

There is also an lpd server available from ogre.cica.indiana.edu
(129.79.22.178) as part of tn3270iu.zip in directory ~/pub. I have
not examined this; it is probably not public domain either.

Also, I hear FTP Software markets an LPD server for DOS. While you
do say "public domain", consider the value of support which comes with
commercial products.
