1) Should the packet be tossed? If the next hop in a Strict Source Route can't be reached directly, drop it. Ditto if you can't route towards the next hop in a Loose Source Route. 2) Should the packet be answered with an ICMP unreachable message? ICMP Destination Unreachable, Code 5 (Source Route Failed), unless the failed packet was an ICMP Error Message itself. And, if so, how should A handle the Record portion of the option list? A never forwarded it so it never really was routed by it. Don't record yourself (I'm guessing), because the information is already available in the source IP address of the ICMP error. James B.
