I have a question about the "Dial-up Internet Protocol".. namely, does it exist yet, was it ever a serious idea (or just a joke), and if it's not there yet, and is serious.. how far away is it? "Dialup IP" is real. It is available via ftp from uunet.uu.net and from bbn.com. The software will automatically initiate SLIP connections to remote hosts whenever packets are queued to the dialup IP interface. The package includes a general (mmdf-like?) script language to negotiate and establish connections. There is a mailing list for discussion, send to "dialupip-request@sh.cs.net" for info. Now the surreal part: The software runs under BSD, Ultrix, and 3.x SunOS. It does not run under SunOS 4.x streams (yet). /John
