[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] SLIP information

SLIP fans, old and new
Having been watching the traffic for the past few weeks and noticed all
the people looking for more info on SLIP, I think it's high time something
was done about this, so (I'll probably regret this) I volunteer!
Apart from the fact that I am looking for the same thing (and have had
some modest success) I think it is a worthwhile exercise.

So, I will undertake to prepare a summary for the net on SLIP and its
availability and use. What I want to do this is info from SLIP users.
All those of you out there using SLIP, please email me summaries of:
   Equipment
   Configuration
SLIP software version, where you got it etc
   Usage
   Problems
   Any other info
In particular, I think people wanting SLIP are looking for the PC + modem
to Brand X UNIX box solution - feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

No summary of SLIP would be complete without reference to ka9q and ppp,
so info from actual users of these is solicited as well.

Please do not send source code, RFCs, or long specifications of any sort,
user experiences and known locations (USA, UK and Europe) of SLIP code is
what is wanted.

Look forward to hearing from you

iPardon my ignorance, but I would like to know what is SLIP,
the technical details of it. If I build a transmitting
device (i.e. modem) can I incorporate SLIP on it.

Thanks.
