I am looking for the packet length distribution of traffic coming out of a bridge/router to the wide area for TCP/IP, DECnet, or ISO or any other protocol. Data for a commercial environment would be appreciated. There are quite a few articles on packet length distribution within a Token Ring or Ethernet. Will the same statistics hold true for the out-of-LAN traffic ? Within a LAN, for example, the percentage of smaller packets (64-100 bytes) is dominating compared to longer packets (500 + bytes); but in terms of actual Bytes the longer packets dominate. Any reference or data throwing light on this issue is appreciated. Thanks in advance arch3!pachi\@att.com
