DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO COLLOQUIUM ACTIVITIES COMPUTER SCIENCE COLLOQUIUM - Wednesday, June 9, 1982. Prof. Frank W. Tompa of this department will speak on "Ac- cess Paths for Videotex Data". TIME: 3:30 PM ROOM: M&C 5158 ABSTRACT Most of today's videotex systems, including most Telidon database servers, are based on a tree structure of pages over which is placed a limited menu facility. Such an or- ganisation is too restrictive for convenient, efficient access. The concept of a menu will be examined, and options for menu design will be categorised. Where possible, various option choices will be illustrated using the UW/Telidon database server. Thereafter the roles of keywords, form- filling, and alternative data types in videotex will be briefly examined.
