[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] VMS POP3 server

hughes@bronze.ucs.indiana.edu (larry hughes) (04/03/91)

IUPOP3, a VMS POP3 (Post Office Protocol Version 3) server, is now
available via anonymous ftp from mythos.ucs.indiana.edu (129.79.16.210)
in the /pub/iupop3 directory. It was developed here at Indiana
University in recent months.

IUPOP3 is a static, multithreaded server that can process up to 31
simulataneous POP3 client connections. This does not mean that it
can serve only 31 clients; here at IU it serves dozens.

It was developed on VMS 5.3 and 5.4 systems, and currently requires
the Wollongong WIN/TCP for VMS product. (It uses their $QIO
interface extensively). We have not yet attempted to port the code
to other TCP/IP products for VMS, although we will likely do so for
UCX in the future.

We've tested IUPOP3 thoroughly with two POP3 clients: Eudora for
the Macintosh, and FTP Software's POP3 for DOS. It will probably
work well with others.
