[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Raw Ip sockets

dunford@NISD.CAM.UNISYS.COM (Stephen Dunford) (04/19/91)

Dear TCP/IPers

I am interested in finding out if there are any Unix applications which
use a raw socket interface directly to IP (not ICMP). I would like
to get the source code if possible as an example.

The BSD gated program is a working example of how to use raw socket. It is
available in uunet.uu.net:networking.

More accurately, the home of gated is gated.cornell.edu in
/pub/gated/; the current release is gated.tar.Z (of 24 Jan 1990), and
the working version is 2.0.1.10 (of 16 Apr 1991). uunet only has the
old version.

Gated is written by Cornell Univ, thus not a BSD program. I apologize
for the mistake made. I thanks Mark Bodenstein for correcting me.
