I am looking for someone in the DC area (local phone call from Northern Virginia) who is interested in establishing a Point-to- Point Protocol dialup connection. I would prefer someone who knows more than I do about PPP, but if not, I guess we'll learn together. I would also prefer a V.32 connection (or PEP, but I hear that doesn't work so well.) If you're interested but don't have the software, I can provide a version of the Clement/Fox PPP software for Suns running OS4.x. I also have an older version that allegedly runs on Vaxen under BSD4.3, but I've never tried it. Finally, I have a copy of the KA9Q package that includes PPP support. I've never tried that, either. (Note: installation of anything other than the KA9Q package requires a kernel rebuild, so you have to have root privileges.) Any takers? (For those who don't know, PPP is a data link layer protocol that allows packet transport across serial lines. Its advantage over SLIP is that it can be used with protocols other than IP and it provides link and network control protocols. The PPP specification is contained in RFC1171.) -- Dave Mack csu@alembic.acs.com uunet!alembic!csu (703)883-3812 (work) (703)734-0877 (home)
