[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Mac telnet sessions dying on VAX 8530

MANAGER@JHUIGF.BITNET (05/04/91)

Greetings, netppl. I'm having a problem with our network. We have a number
of Localtalk networks here connected to our ethernet thru fastpath boxes,
and so the macs on the localtalk can access our VAX 8530 (vms 5.3, CMU-TEK
TCP/IP version 6.5). All of them can connect using NCSA telnet, but after
5 or 10 minutes of connect time, they are killed, logging the following
error into INTERNET.LOG:

12:28:07.87 TCB 0009F808 killed by ICMP Dest Unreachable
12:28:07.97 TCB 0009F808 state change from 4 to 12
12:28:08.07 TCB 0009F808 inactivated, reason=140738746

Mark Shannon from CMU has told me that this is due to the fastpath's somehow
losing the IP number of the calling Mac. Now, what I'd like to know is this:

1) How can we make this not happen? We've tried the fastpath with static
and dynamic addressing, as well as a number of physical connections.

2) What is reason 140738746?

Thanks a whole lot for any help...
