Can SNMP be used for managing applications as well as network entities or is application management better handled by another protocol? As an SNMP novice, I could see adding MIB types for application information, and proxy-agents for applications. What I am looking for is something which will monitor/control applications running anywhere on a network. Relevent information would be: (1) who is using which application (2) which version of an application is being run (3) ability to control access to the application Is there a standard for an APPLICATION management protocol (in ASN.1) ? or am I nuts. Is this already included in any SNMP implementation, or is it discouraged? Please let me know if any such protocol exists (IP or otherwise). Steve Bush GE Information Services
