Text: (Please note that my From: line is broken. Reply directly to me at aprm%gd@shafter-emh1.army.mil) The April 8 edition of PC WEEK carried a story about Sun's Transport-Independent Remote Procedure Call (TI-RPC) tool. It is supposed to allow developers to create applications for Sun ONC networks based on either tcp/ip or OSI. I'm surprised that I haven't seen any mention of it here. Did I miss something? Although we currently use Intel's OpenNET at Ft. Shafter, we have embraced GOSIP as the standard to migrate to. In the meantime, I want to build client/server database applications, and am hamstrung by the lack of support for OpenNET and GOSIP. I put together a proposal based on tcp/ip, but getting approval will be an uphill battle, and as a tax payer I don't like the idea of building a system that requires buying a bunch of hardware that may very well become obsolete in a few years. (I'm not knocking tcp/ip, just accepting the reality that DoD and the Army insist on using GOSIP.) According to the article, source code is available on Internet. Anybody know where? Is there anybody familier with this stuff who can comment as to its applicability in my situation? In particular, is there any hope of getting it to work with OpenNET, which we could use until GOSIP comes on line here? Is it reasonable to assume that the "OSI" Sun refers to is compatible with GOSIP (or is it the other way 'round)? Any SQL database vendors supporting this thing? Thanks in advance for all replies.
