I am developing an application level protocol that will be used by client programs to communicate with a daemon that manages a dbm database of mail aliases. We are planning to distribute the client programs to system managers around our campus so they can easily manage their aliases and mailing lists. I am using RFC 821 (SMTP) as a starting point, but I was wondering if there are any other documents which I could take a look at (RFC's or otherwise). Also, if anyone has any advice or suggestions, I would be happy to hear from you. Email response is fine.
