We are having problems getting 2 Excelan tcp/ip interface boards that were acquired for our vax computers, to communicate with other systems on a local area network. Board status shows EXOS204 FIRMWARE RELEASE 5.5, HARDWARE 0.0, SOFTWARE 4.F The Excelan boards will only communicate with each other. We have tried to get a Cisco router and other software products such as Wollongong to communicate, but with no luck. All products use the same class C ip address X.Y.X.-. Using the debugger features of a Cisco router clearly shows that the Excelan interface does not respond to telnet or ping commands and does not see the Excelans attempts at opening connections. Having static arp table entries at both the source and destination systems, publishing the arp entries, and using the netload -e command to change the physical address to a Dec manufactured board, a subnet mask setting to 0xff.0xff.0xff.0x0 have not been helpful. We also reinstalled the software. Netstat -e visually shows any changes when they are made to the board. Bstat shows 11 transmitted frames (probably arps) when we try to go to another TCPIP interface that is not listed in the arp table. The transmission medium is ok, since the other systems can communicate on the same segment. Did we miss something in the EXCELAN documentation ???????????????????
