Prof. John Mylopoulos of the University of Toronto
will speak on "Knowledge Bases in Databases".

               ABSTRACT

We describe a simple knowledge representation frame-
work based on semantic networks which emphasizes or-
ganization and show how it deals with the representa-
tion of procedures, exceptions, scripts, syntactic
patterns and assertions. We also give an account of
applications of the framework encountered in Data-
               bases and Software Engineering.

The research presented is based on work carried out
within the Taxis project at the University of Toron-
to. The goal of the project is to provide tools for
the specification of requirements and the design of
               interactive information systems.

Coffee and refreshments will be served at 3:00 PM.
