Does anybody know TCP/IP software which runs on VM (CMS or GCS) and has socket interface to application? SAS C interface is the best for us. IBM TCP/IP for VM (R1.2) does not have socket interface and also requires IBM C for System/370 (we are calling White Smith C) which we don't want to use. -- Yuko Tanaka INTERNET: yuko@dbaccess.com V V c/o DB Access Inc. TCP/IP Version 2 supports a normal socket interface. I think you need to use IBM C. I does have connect(), but it doesnt have accept(), at least last time I checked (I checked thoroughly, because I wrote a tape server for VM). Well, you haven't checked recently, since our TCP/IP Version 2 for VM (and MVS) both have fairly complete socket implementations, including accept(). VM V2 has been out since last November, MVS V2 was available this March. -- Bill Rubin IBM TJ Watson Research

I suspect it would either work w/ other Cs or could be made to do so without too much hassle (though I've not done so). I have used the interface w/ C/370 and can state that it works.

Is anyone has any network printing solution for IBM TCP/IP with MVS over Ethernet? I am tring to find a solution for MVS/CICS printing over the campus network. Currently, all the CICS printers have to attach to the IBM7171 box. All the MVS/CICS users are using the TN3270 on a PC with ethernet interface to communicate with the Mainframe. However, we would like to bring the CICS printer closer to them. Maybe through lpr/lpd if there is a way on the IBM TCP/IP for MVS. I would like to know all your suggestions. Have I read right ? Is there a TCP/IP version 2 for VM ? Version 2 of the IBM TCP/IP code for VM and MVS include lpr/lpd support.

Sorry, Nick, you're only half correct. VM V2 does have LPR/LPD, but for MVS V2, all we announced was a 'Statement of Direction'. That is IBMese for "we don't have it (LPR/LPD) now, but we're going to in the future". -- Bill rubin@watson.ibm.com IBM TJ Watson Research

IBM's TCP/IP V1 for VM (product number 5798-FAL) was withdrawn from marketing in the US on 12/28/90, as announced on 6/19/90. Outside of the US, it may have been a bit later, but I'd be very surprised if V1 was still orderable. The replacement product number is 5735-FAL. Perhaps your IBMers just have their terminology wrong? Even people here in development mistakenly still call it Release 2 instead of Version 2. -- Bill rubin@watson.ibm.com IBM TJ Watson Research
