[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] Telenet/X25 IP connection

fkam@sodium.Asia.Sun.COM (Francis Kam - Asia CS) (06/06/91)

I have a Sun box running SunLink X25 with a sync. modem to Telenet X25.

I want to establish that node as an IP point-to-point gateway on X25
to the Internet community via Telenet.

I presume that given the X25 address on an Internet node in the continental
USA which is accessible at the X25 level via Telenet, I can establish
such a link and use that remote node as a gateway.

I now need to do two things:

1) get an Internet domain from NIC;
2) arrange for such a remote node to tap onto.

Since I have never done this before and I'm doing this for a customer who
has already had Telenet X25 access (who's willing to pay subscription fee
for such a remote node), I would be grateful if someone out there could
give me some hints as to whether there are services like this and tap
point, and for how much? (I also sent a mail to uunet asking similar
service)

My appreciation to any information.

Let me quite from RFC1060.TXT: Assigned Numbers: See below.
I really have no idea how many of these assigned numbers are still in
use, but this is the network you should join.

                         PUBLIC DATA NETWORK NUMBERS

One of the Internet Class A Networks is the international system of
Public Data Networks. This section lists the mapping between the
Internet Addresses and the Public Data Network Addresses (X.121).

The numbers below are assigned for networks that are connected to the
Internet, and for independent networks. These independent networks
are marked with an asterisk preceding the number.
