[comp.protocols.tcp-ip] ethernet slide lock problems

ade@clark.edu (Adrian Miranda) (06/09/91)

Recently, we seem to have started having problems with the slide
lock that connects the AUI drop cable from the CISCO router to the
transceiver. Periodically, the Cisco will start reporting:

%LANCE-5-LOSTCARR: Unit 0, lost carrier. Transceiver problem?

There is nothing visibly wrong with the slide lock on the transceiver,
but if I fiddle with it, the errors always seem to go away. I assume
therefore the slide lock is at fault, though if anyone has other
suggestions, please let me know.

I recall that some time ago, there was a discussion in this newsgroup
about problems with slide locks. Perhaps someone kept an archive
of this that they could mail me? I am particularly interested in methods
of replacing the slide lock altogether - I believe one or two people
said this was possible.

Since this has already been thrashed out recently, please email
responses. I will summarize if it seems appropriate.
