I am having some trouble using my recently purchased Annex IIe for a SLIP link connecting two class B networks. The setup is as follows: 128.184 Class B -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | ----------- | PCroute | PCroute is 2.2 ----------- | 128.184.201.1 ----------- | Modem | ----------- | | | | Leased line | | ----------- | Modem | ----------- | 128.184.201.2 ------------- -------------- | Annex IIe | | Sun | ------------- -------------- | 138.19.4.3 | 138.19.1.10 | | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 138.19 Class B Pinouts for Annex port to modem are as follows: Annex Port Modem DB25 TxD 2 RxD 3 RTS 4 CTS 5 Gnd 7 DCD 8 DTR 20 Setup for Annex is: Annex network administrator R5.0.3 Apr 23, 1990 annex daffy.ts: inet_addr: 138.19.4.3 pref_load_addr: 138.19.1.1 pref_dump_addr: 0.0.0.0 load_broadcast: Y image_name: "" subnet_mask: 255.255.0.0 broadcast_addr: 255.255.255.255 load_dump_gateway: 0.0.0.0 name_server_1: dns pref_name1_addr: 138.19.1.1 name_server_2: dns pref_name2_addr: 138.19.1.10 nameserver_broadcast: N host_table_size: 64 pref_secure1_host: 0.0.0.0 pref_secure2_host: 0.0.0.0 security_broadcast: Y vcli_security: N network_turnaround: 2 enable_security: Y load_dump_sequence: net ipencap_type: ethernet server_capability: none syslog_mask: none syslog_facility: log_local7 syslog_host: 0.0.0.0 cli_prompt: "annex: " motd_file: "motd" timezone_minuteswest: 300 daylight_savings: usa time_broadcast: N max_vcli: unlimited password: "<set>" acp_key: "<unset>" vcli_password: "<unset>" routed: Y rwhod: Y min_unique_hostnames: Y ring_priority: 0 Setup for annex port running slip is: annex daffy.ts port 3: speed: 9600 data_bits: 8 stop_bits: 1 parity: none imask_7bits: N control_lines: both type: hardwired mode: slip forwarding_timer: 0 inactivity_timer: off port_multiplex: N allow_broadcast: Y max_session_count: 3 input_flow_control: eia input_start_char: ^Q input_stop_char: ^S output_flow_control: eia output_start_char: ^Q output_stop_char: ^S ixany_flow_control: N long_break: Y short_break: Y attn_char: ^@ user_name: "" prompt: "" term_var: "" input_buffer_size: 1 bidirectional_modem: N default_modem_hangup: N location: "" input_is_activity: Y output_is_activity: N reset_idle_time_on: input cli_security: N connect_security: N port_server_security: N dedicated_address: 0.0.0.0 dedicated_port: telnet newline_terminal: N leap_protocol_on: N echo: Y map_to_lower: N map_to_upper: N char_erase: Y line_erase: Y hardware_tabs: Y erase_char: ^? erase_word: ^W erase_line: ^U redisplay_line: ^R toggle_output: ^O telnet_escape: ^] slip_local_address: 128.184.201.2 slip_remote_address: 128.184.201.1 slip_subnet_mask: 255.255.255.0 slip_load_dump_host: 0.0.0.0 slip_metric: 1 slip_allow_dump: Y cli_inactivity: off port_password: "<unset>" broadcast_direction: port On the Annex, the gateways file is: host 128.184.201.1 gateway 138.19.4.3 metric 1 hardwired net 128.184.0.0 gateway 138.19.4.3 metric 2 hardwired net 128.184.0.0 gateway 128.184.201.1 metric 1 hardwired I also did the following on the sun - 138.19.1.10. (Note that the network 138.19 is NOT subnetted.) route add net 128.184.201.0 138.19.4.3 1 With all the above set up I can ping 128.184.201.1 successfully when on a VCLI port on the annex but cannot ping the same address from the sun (138.19.1.10). The ping from the sun does increase the CharTx count on the annex port used for SLIP so the routing seems correct. Also from the other end (128.184.0.0), pings to 128.184.201.2 do not work but again using the stats command I can see the CharRx count increase with each ping packet. Has anyone successfully run a configuration like this? Is there any known incompatibilities between Annex SLIP and PCroute? Can anyone see anything wrong with my setup? Sorry about the length of this!!
