In the process of trying to learn something about SNMP and looking at RFC1157, I started wondering about whether or not one would expect one vendor's client to work with another vendor's server. There is probably no reason to expect that there would be problems, but I was wondering what the experiences of those who have actually used SNMP in the real world are like (in contrast to my just reading about it...)? Does one expect different vendor's software to work together and if so, are there any problems observed? I guess more broadly, can anyone say something about whether or not SNMP is really solving problems and proving to be useful. Features provided that aren't useful? Features needed that aren't provided? ... that sort of thing. Just curious, Jim Binkley jrb@jove.cs.pdx.edu
