Well, I've dug thru TFM and applied some extra steps from past postings
on the subject. However, I'm having a problem getting some of the ftp
commands to work when using the anon-ftp login. All the commands work
fine under a regular user login.
Symptoms:
ftp> ls
200 PORT command successful.
150 Opening data connection for /bin/ls (143.116.12.3,1080) (0 bytes).
226 Transfer complete.
ftp> dir
200 PORT command successful.
150 Opening data connection for /bin/ls -l (143.116.12.3,1081) (0 bytes).
226 Transfer complete.
ftp> pwd
451 Permission denied.
.... and so on. Strangely, I can get/put, and cd works--I just can't
find out where I am, or what files are there.
My /ftp directory looks like this (totals/blank lines deleted):

I've gone thru the setup at least three times, now. Without
hints that stu@mav.com posted back in February, I wouldn't
have gotten this far (TFM doesn't mention the dev and shlib
requirements.
No, I can't install 2.x or higher--it's not available for
MultiBus systems.
I'm open to any suggestions, and will greatly appreciate it.
