Joint Computer Science Systems and Electrical Engineering Seminar Wednesday, April 6th, 3:00 P.M., SF1101: Ian M. Leslie, Computer Laboratory, University of Cambridge, "Project Universe". ABSTRACT: A network composed of a number of local area networks in the U.K. connected through a 2Mb/s satellite link will be described. This network, modestly named the Universe Network, is a co-operative venture involving the Univ. of Cambridge, University College London, Loughborough University of Technology, the Rutherford Appleton Lab, British Telecom, GEC Marconi and Logica Ltd. The seminar will concentrate on the architecture of the network, which is designed to allow protocols which were used on a single component local network to be used unchanged on the larger network.
