[comp.windows.news] NeWS SIG at CHI '88

don@BRILLIG.UMD.EDU (Don Hopkins) (03/15/88)

Who's going to CHI '88? That's the Conference on Human Factors in
Computing Systems, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, in Washington DC, from
May 15th to the 19th.

I submitted a proposal to have an informal NeWS special interest group
meeting, which is now scheduled for Thursday, May 19, from 11:00 to
12:30, in the Cabinet room.

If you're attending CHI '88, please show up if you'd like to find out
about the Network extensible Window System and the X11/NeWS merged
window system, or discuss what you're doing with NeWS! If you want to
give a presentation, just let me know. (Send email to
don@brillig.umd.edu, or call (301) 454-1517.)

Topics:

Writing NeWS applications; interfacing C to PostScript; NeWS as an
interactive PostScript programming environment; object oriented
programming in NeWS; PostScript development and debugging tools;
prototyping experimental user interfaces in NeWS; extending the user
interface toolkit in the server; pie menus under NeWS; Emacs NeWS
support; handling input in the server with light weight NeWS
processes; the pleasures of arbitrarily shaped windows; PostScript
printer compatibility; neat window system hacks and other fun stuff.
