Future Directions in Local Computer Networks Prof. David J. Farber, University of Delaware Wednesday, October 5, 1983 Over the past 15 years, the speaker and others have been exploring the local computer network area. The results of this research have been a number of prototype architectures (and now production units), each of which had different aims and results. In addition, a number of operating systems have been developed in support of these networks. This talk will describe some of the conclusions from this research and implications on future hardware/software designs. Plans for the integration of results of this research into the design of an experimental high bandwidth fault tolerant flood network will be discussed. Professor Farber will also discuss the effect of the evolving technology in micoprocessors, local networks, and distributed processing as it affects the architecture of the Trusted Office of the Future. As usual, coffee and cookies will be served beforehand in the DCS Lounge. -- Phyllis Eve Bregman CSRG, Univ. of Toronto {decvax,linus,ihnp4,uw-beaver,floyd,utzoo}!utcsrgv!phyllis
