[comp.windows.news] InterViews and NeWS

gad@cadnetix.COM (Gordon Durand) (07/06/88)

About a month ago I posted an article asking if anyone
had ported Stanford's InterViews classes to Sun's NeWS.
I got several responses from folks interested in such a
port, but no indication that such a port had been done (sigh).

Anyway, I'm going to go ahead and port InterViews to NeWS.
The timing and completion of this port are subject to my
inexperience with NeWS and my "official" duties here at
Cadnetix. I suspect that the port will be something of a
"spare time" project, but I'll try to get it done as soon
as possible. I'll post again when the port is completed.

The idea of Interviews (or any class-based package) working with NeWS
raises some interesting design questions. Under X, Interviews is strictly
a client-side package, and that's that. Under NeWS, you have the
intriguing possibility of a "mixed" package, with some parts running on
the client and some on the server. You might even have mixed classes, with
some methods local and some remote. I'd be interested in seeing any
thoughts or experience that Durand or others have about this.
