UofT Department of Computer Science Seminar Schedule for the week of October 31st, 1983 Thursday, November 3rd, 3:00 P.M., GB248: Professor Randy Bank, Department of Mathematics, University of California at San Diego: "Dynamic structures for adaptive finite element computations". ABSTRACT: In this talk we will discuss data structures and associated algorithms which can be used in implementing automated adaptive local mesh refinement schemes for finite element computations. Both triangular and quadrilateral elements will be considered. Friday, November 3th, 11:00 A.M., GB248: Mayer Schwarz, Computer Research Lab, Tektronix, Beaverton, Oregon: "Magpie: An interactive programming environment for Pascal". ABSTRACT: Magpie provides in one, integrated tool the functions of an editor, a compiler and a debugger--all tailored specifically for Pascal. Magpie is an example of a programming environment which takes advantage of high-performance, display-oriented, personal workstations. Magpie reduces any delays between changing a program and editing it to no more than a few seconds. All debugging is done in terms of Pascal, including the possibility of executing separate Pascal code when a given identifier in the user's program is referenced. -- Phyllis Eve Bregman CSRG, Univ. of Toronto {decvax,linus,ihnp4,uw-beaver,floyd,utzoo}!utcsrgv!phyllis
