[ont.events] UofT DCS Seminars for week Nov. 21st

phyllis@utcsrgv.UUCP (Phyllis Eve Bregman) (11/16/83)

UofT Department of Computer Science Seminar Schedule for
the week of November 21st 1983

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2:00 P.M., GB244: Dr. T. Matsuyama
University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland: "Aerial
   image understanding".

ABSTRACT: The speaker has developed two image understanding
systems for aerial photograph interpretation. One of them
developed at Kyoto University, Japan about four years ago.
It incorporates "production system" as the control scheme, and
has the ability of "focus of attention" to facilitate image
analysis. The other system is currently under development at the
University of Maryland. The characteristics of this system are
   (i) knowledge-based low level image analysis, (ii) selection of
appropriate appearance using contextual information, and (iii) spatial
   reasoning based on evidence accumulation.

The lecture will include the comparison between these two systems as
well as the explanation of the fundamental ideas and the demonstration
   of the experimental results.

Thursday, November 24th, 3:00 P.M., GB248: Professor Bob Skeel, Department
of Computer Science, University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois:
"The construction of variable stepsize multistep methods".

Thursday, November 24th, 3:00 P.M., GB244: Professor Yuri Gurevich, Dept. of
Computer Science and Communication Science, University of Michigan,
Ann Arbor, Michigan: "Logic tailored for computational complexity".
