Complaints about the book being late should be addressed to me and my fellow authors not to Springer (who seem to be working far faster than we ever did!). In our defense, all I can say is that writing a book like this is incredibly hard work, and doing it in your spare time while working full-time on the software it describes is even harder. David.

In the interests of fairness to Springer and the authors, I should perhaps clarify. I had seen the book (a beta copy?) in the Springer booth at a conference, and inferred that it was available; I was attempting to minister to the frustrations of the fellow who'd been trying to get it. I probably should have put smileys around "beat on"; what I *really* meant was "ask politely".
