I'm still quite the NeWS novice, but I'm getting frustrated by the trouble I'm having with some basic things in NeWS. That frustration is compounded when I watch a friend do the same things with less effort in NextStep. For example, I'd like to make the equivalent of a SunView cmdtool window. I'm using an instance of class ScrollWindow, but putting text in there and scrolling it isn't trivial (from this novice's perspective, anyway). Kinda reminds me of the Mac Toolbox :-). And as I mentioned, it isn't too tough to create scrolling text windows in NextStep. Is it unfair for me to compare NeWS to NextStep this way? I know the lite*.ps files were never meant to be a fully functional toolkit. Will there be a commercially available toolkit in the future, like with the NeWS/X.11 system? This isn't meant to be a flame on NeWS. I happen to think it is pretty slick. I guess I expected to have some of the common functions already available so I could work at a higher level when I didn't need something out of the ordinary.
