[comp.windows.news] bogus arguments, whether pro or con

Under X, extensions are linked into the server during the entire
session, even if you don't need them

Gee, I guess you've never even looked at an NCR Towerview.

It sure would be nice if this community got their facts straight. So many
bogosities have passed on this list as "fact" for the past few days, I can't
even begin to count them.

No I haven't. I'd like to know how it works, if somebody would like to
explain. Do I understand that NCR has a meta-extension for loading
and unloading server extensions dynamically? Is it in the form of a
standard X extension that I could link into, say, an X11/NeWS server?
Or does it require server modification, and/or operating system
support? (And of course, is it in R4?) I'll keep an eye out on
comp.windows.x ...

Don't count them, correct them, please! (and thanks!)

A lot of messages have passed on this list in the past few days, and I
can't even begin to count the bounces. It's holiday season everyone's
mailer is on the fritz. I hope people who send mail to NeWS-makers
aren't getting as many bounces as I am. I will try to find out what
the problems are and fix them soon, but I don't have read permission
on the queue files, so I've tried to let the systems staff know about
it indirectly...

Do I understand that NCR has a meta-extension for loading

It has a mechanism, yes. I don't know the implementation details.

Is it in the form of a
standard X extension that I could link into, say, an X11/NeWS server?

There is no notion of a "standard X extension", in terms of implementation
binaries or standardized internal interfaces, at least not right now.

Or does it require server modification, and/or operating system
    support?

I would say most interesting X extensions (3D, video, overlays, double-buffering,
nonrectangular windows, input devices, shared memory) have required some amount
of server modification and/or hardware/OS support.

Don't count them, correct them, please! (and thanks!)

I seldom have time to be more than annoyed/amused at this list, sorry.
