UofT Department of Computer Science Seminar Schedule for the week of February 20th, 1984 Thursday, February 23rd, 4:00 P.M., GB244: Dr. Maureen Stone Computer Science Laboratory, Palo Alto Research Center: "Automatically fitting splines to pictures". ABSTRACT: For publication quality graphics, it is important to have a resolution independent representation for text and illustrations. One way to achieve this is to describe the outline of each shape as a parametric cubic curve or *spline*. Producing such a representation for a complex image, however, can be a tedious task. This talk will describe a method for automatically generating efficient spline approximations from sampled data. Using this algorithm, it is possible for a designer to sketch or scan a shape and let the computer define the curves for the outline. -- Phyllis Eve Bregman CSRG, Univ. of Toronto {decvax,linus,ihnp4,uw-beaver,allegra,utzoo}!utcsrgv!phyllis
