AT&T has finally released the Solbourne Object Interface Library
which includes swm, the Solbourne Window Manager. Now that swm
is available on hardware other than Solbourne's, I'm wondering
how well it would work as a substitute for olwm on Sun OWV2.
I believe Solbourne runs straight X11R4 on their workstations, so
I don't know that it has been really tried with OW.
Has anyone tried this?
I've got a few more questions about the OIL product, in case any
experts are listening:
* Is OIL known to work (or not work) with g++?
* I read in Unix Today that OIL will support the NeXT GUI in
the future, and wonder what this means. In the case of
OL/Motif it means that one binary can switch GUI's dynamically
between OL and Motif. Will one binary some how be able to talk
to both X terminals and NeXT workstations? Will swm started
with -next, give a NeXT look and feel on an X box that can
talk to NeXT clients? (My guess is that it means a lot less
than this, probably you can link X clients written with OIL
to run on a NeXT).
