UofT Department of Computer Science Seminar Schedule for
the week of April 23rd, 1984

Tuesday, April 24th, 4:00 P.M., GB244, Professor Jack Cowan,
University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois: "Spontaneous
symmetry breaking in large scale brain activity: Hallucinations,
   epilepsies and migraines".

ABSTRACT: A theory will be outlined of brain activity under various
conditions. In particular, a theory for the generation of drug
induced visual hallucination patterns will be described as an
example of pattern formation by spontaneous symmetry breaking.
Similar theories for epilepsy and related migraine problems will
be discussed, including the way in which the brain "wires itself
   up" in early development.
