[****] UofT Department of Computer Science Seminar Schedule for the week of April 23rd, 1984 Friday, April 27th, 3:00 P.M., GB220, Professor Michael Molloy, University of Texas, Austin, TX: "Experimental research in LAN at the University of Texas". ABSTRACT: Since the development of the Ethernet by Xerox, local area network (LAN) technology has grown at a very rapid pace. There have been a large number of different types of LANs proposed, and for each type a large number of different protocols. Currently, a testbed for evaluating the performance and implementation problems of various CSMA/CD protocols is being installed. Even during the startup phase, a large number of interesting facts about LAN protocols have been uncovered. These include some implementation problems with currently proposed protocols and a new mechanism to perform collision resolution in an unslotted environment. This talk will review the testbed configuration, the protocols to be studied, the implementation problems currently identified, and the new resolution method being proposed. -- Phyllis Eve Bregman CSRG, Univ. of Toronto {decvax,linus,ihnp4,uw-beaver,allegra,utzoo}!utcsrgv!phyllis CSNET: phyllis@toronto (416) 978 6985
