the week of April 30th, 1984

Thursday, May 3rd, 3:00 P.M., GB244, Professor James Winslow, Dept. of
Computer Science, University of Toronto: "Numerical solution of
   neurons: Analysis and results".

ABSTRACT: To understand how neurons compute, techniques have been
developed for simulation of input-output functions of these structures.
The compartment method is shown for dendrites (electrically passive)
and axons (electrically active, producing action potentials). The
compartment version of the method of lines is used to cope with large
branching tree structures. Large systems of nonlinear ODE's result.

Recent results are presented giving eigen values of these systems and
evaluation of different integration methods. This is done for different
   test geometries.
