ksbooth@watcgl.UUCP (01/11/85)

A series of three talks will be presented in conjunction with the exhibit
``But Is It Art?... The Computer As A Creative Tool'' being held at the
University of Waterloo Art Centre Gallery January 10 through February 17,
1985. The talks are sponsored by the Institute for Computer Research and
the Computer Graphics Laboratory at the University of Waterloo. Invited
speakers will discuss the growing relationship between computer technology
and art.

Topics will include the application of computer imaging techniques to the
art of printing and graphic design, the use of computer graphics to produce
animated films and video, and the design of interactive computer video games
and real-time video performance. Each of the speakers will describe the way
in which computer technology assisted the artwork shown in the exhibit.

The talks will include short video tapes illustrating computer systems
representative of the emerging technology that artists are beginning to
incorporate into their work.

The three talks are described in three separate news items which follow.
The talks will take place January 22-24, 1985 at the University of Waterloo.
