Computers, Graphic Design and the Printed Piece

Computer Science Laboratory, Xerox Palo Alto Research Center

About The Talk

The computer is a tool that can provide innovative solutions to visual
design problems, especially in the hands of an experienced designer.
Often, however, the most interesting capabilities are not yet ``user
friendly''. This talk will describe the collaboration between graphic
designers and computer scientists at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center.
The result has been a shared awareness of the problems and capabilities
in the two fields. Our work has emphasised printed pieces on a variety
of output devices: laser printers, Versatec colour plotters and laser
film plotters.
