Computers, Graphic Design and the Printed Piece Maureen Stone Computer Science Laboratory, Xerox Palo Alto Research Center 7:30 pm on Tuesday, January 22, 1985 Theatre of the Arts, University of Waterloo About The Talk The computer is a tool that can provide innovative solutions to visual design problems, especially in the hands of an experienced designer. Often, however, the most interesting capabilities are not yet ``user friendly''. This talk will describe the collaboration between graphic designers and computer scientists at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center. The result has been a shared awareness of the problems and capabilities in the two fields. Our work has emphasised printed pieces on a variety of output devices: laser printers, Versatec colour plotters and laser film plotters. About The Speaker Maureen Stone has been with Xerox Corporation since 1978 and has been at the Palo Alto Research Center since 1980. She works on a variety of projects related to computer-based imaging and computer graphics including the design and implementation of the Griffin illustrator, an interactive computer-based tool for graphic design. Maureen attended the California Institute of Technology from 1977 to 1978, where she studied computer graphics and VLSI design techniques. Her interests include computer graphics, graphic design, user interface design and music.
