After spending a considerable amount of time trying to get GNU Emacs 18.49 running on my 5700 I decided to try compiling it on a 5500 (really 565). No problem. In fact I can run on the 5700 provided I compile on the 5500. I have noticed this same type of problem with several other large programs. I believe the problem is due to the compiler used on the 5600/5700 system; it turns out some really different code sometimes. Aside from being a royal pain for maintenance, I would like to take advantage of the 020/lightning hardware. I keep hoping Masscomp will fix the problem. I don't think it's reasonable to have such problems porting software between two machines in the same family with the same OS, etc. Dennis
