[comp.sys.masscomp] MASSCOMP buys Concurrent, MASSCOMP becomes Concurrent

masscomp@soma.neuro.bcm.tmc.edu (Stan Barber, Moderator) (08/09/88)

MASSCOMP has bought Concurrent from Perkin Elmer. MASSCOMP will become
Concurrent and continue to sell both the MASSCOMP line of computers as well
as the Concurrent line. Specific details are coming, but here is some
pieces:

MASSCOMP Marketing and Engineering will remain in the New England area
although the groups will be relocating to a smaller facility. All other
MASSCOMP operations will be moving to the Concurrent facilities in
New Jersey. As of December 23rd, the name of the company will be Concurrent.

Over 100 employees at the Westford plant were laid off last week due to
the merger.

MASSCOMP purchased the 89% share in Concurrent owned by Perkin Elmer to
make the deal. However, most view this as a merger, not a "take over".

Additional informationi or comments are welcome.
