We have a MC5500 running v. 3.0A of the OS, with a EXOS 201 Ethernet controller. The controller netcode handles essentially all of the TCP-level stuff. On file transfers from another machine to the Masscomp, things go fine for a bit, but then start to hang up, with only one packet getting through every 30-90 seconds. This also occasionally occurs in telnet; one must send a packet (keystroke) in order for the other host to continue sending data (or wait till it retries). Using a netwatch program, it seems that the proper acknowledgement packet is getting screwed up or not sent. It seems it only occurs when a separate packet is required for the acknowledgement, and then only occasionally, in spurts. We suspect the netcode or controller hardware. Are there any known patches we can try? We are not under service contract, but we can patch the netcode using the MS-DOS debugger on our PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The firmware is Release 5.0 and the netcode is Release 2.0 with one patch we did to remove a TTL_EXCEEDED problem.
